Life Insurers, America: On The Move

Nov 10, 2020

Every four years, Americans come together in early November to determine our nation’s future.

No matter whether we’re in the middle of a Civil War, a World War or a global pandemic. It’s guaranteed.

America’s free and democratic elections are a source of inspiration worldwide. This year’s election was framed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the resulting economic downturn and our nation’s reckoning with systemic racial inequality. Recognizing the magnitude of this moment in history, Americans were as engaged and passionate about this election than any in recent memory, delivering the highest voter turnout rate since 1968 and exceeding the record number of votes cast in 2008.

The American Council of Life Insurers congratulates President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. We welcome the opportunity to work with new and returning lawmakers, here in Washington D.C. and in our 50 state capitals.

With a level of engagement that was truly inspiring from people of all ages, backgrounds, and colors, we’re confident that our nation and our democracy have emerged from this year’s election in a strong position, and on the move.

How do we know? Well, we have more than two centuries of evidence on our side. In good times and in bad, our nation has been able to come together after elections and tackle its challenges head-on.

And for more than 175 years, the life insurance industry has been there every step of the way, helping our communities when they need it most.

We have provided unwavering support for American families and communities since before the Civil War through the first generation of the 21st century. Whenever and wherever America needs us, life insurers are there.

And we will continue to help our country. By investing hundreds of millions of dollars every day in bonds, mortgages and other long-term investments, life insurers support our nation’s economy. Through our Economic Empowerment and Racial Equity initiative, we are taking concrete steps to address racial and economic inequities. And through our products, we play a significant role in building wealth and financial security for generations.

Will there be tough times ahead? Sure, there will. But will the life insurance industry be there to help?

We guarantee it.
