Supporting families. Strengthening communities.

For more than 175 years, America’s life insurers have delivered financial security to families and economic vitality to communities.
Those two missions are inextricably linked, where we take the insurance premiums we receive from policyholders and make long-term investments in bonds, stocks and other assets across the nation.
The returns on these investments allow us to keep our promises to our policyholders, whenever and wherever we’re called upon.
Our industry’s investments are substantial: $8.0 trillion. We invest in both the public and private sectors, providing corporations and communities with resources that support economic development in all 50 states.
As the nation’s largest investor in domestic corporate bonds with $3.6 trillion, we provide businesses with invaluable investment capital that they use to fund research and development, expand facilities and boost employment.
Life insurers also invest in state and local municipal bonds. Cities and states use these funds for dependable and modern infrastructure and facilities, including roads, hospitals and schools. This is long-term, patient financing that state and local governments can rely on.
Many of the projects we’re funding today will still be here when the United States celebrates its tricentennial in 2076. And life insurers will still be here, continuing to keep our promises to our policyholders and helping America grow and prosper.
