American families have long turned to life insurance companies for financial certainty and protection against the unexpected. For more than 175 years, life insurers have helped people protect their family’s financial future, preparing them for whatever life brings.

The importance and appeal of this protection was reaffirmed during the COVID pandemic as Americans sought life insurance and guaranteed income from annuities at historically high levels.

And the goal of helping more people build greater financial security is a priority for policymaking in the year ahead. As Congress acts to extend tax relief for individuals and small businesses and to spur economic growth and opportunity, it will be important to also protect access to affordable financial protection and prevent tax increases on life insurers and their policyholders.
