More than 20 million Americans will turn 65 during the next five years. By 2030, one in five Americans will be 65 or older.

Many are concerned about their ability to manage their finances in retirement, especially in today’s volatile economy. Fortunately, people don’t have to look far for peace of mind.

Financial professionals across the nation help Americans plan and prepare to achieve financial certainty for their families. From rural communities to sprawling metropolises, life insurance professionals provide vital guidance and support to people searching for answers.

Studies show that more than 80% of Americans feel the guidance they receive from financial professionals helps them feel reassured during difficult economic times. Financial professionals live in the same neighborhoods as their clients and build close relationships with them. They provide reassurance and financial security after the loss of a loved one. The COVID pandemic reaffirmed the importance of life insurance as insurers paid out record benefits to families and sales of new policies rose to the highest mark in decades.

They also help savers plan and prepare for retirement. With traditional pensions increasingly rare, Americans are turning at record levels to annuities, which can provide guaranteed income for life just like a pension. Nearly three-of-four people working with financial professionals were confident they were saving enough in a retirement account versus barely half of those who had never worked with a professional.

Life insurance professionals also provide solutions that protect workers’ paychecks after a disabling illness or injury. They work closely with businesses to provide benefits that allow them to attract and retain their employees. They work with small business owners to ensure that family-owned firms can continue from one generation to the next.

All the while, financial professionals are actively engaged in their local communities, supporting local schools, churches, events, and activities.

For nearly two centuries, the life insurance sector has been there for Americans in good times and in bad. And our commitment to serving Americans has never been stronger. Life insurance professionals will continue to serve Americans from coast-to-coast, supporting our industry’s vital role as the private sector safety net.
